This event is sponsored by the adult mental health block grant and is intended for persons who serve adults only that are struggling with severe mental illness and/or co-occurring disorders through the mental health provider networks (CMHSPs and/or their contract agencies) in the state of Michigan. It contains content appropriate for CEOs, COOs, clinical directors, supervisors, case managers, support coordinators, therapists, crisis workers, peer support specialists, nurses, advocates, and recovery coaches. This is specifically geared for individuals who currently provide evidenced-based practices that include use of mindfulness. Providers must provide services to adults who struggle with mental health and/or co-occurring disorders and work under a CMHSP/CMHSP contractor.


​There is a $40 fee to attend this training. Registration is required and space is limited. Registration closes 3-business days before the training begins.

Training Objectives:

  • Understand the general psychotherapeutic process related to clinical change and progress.
  • Articulate the role of change theory as contextualized in the therapeutic relationship as well as approach-specific clinical skills/techniques.
  • Reiterate the definition of CBT, including its history, its development, and its various developments.
  • Articulate the generic cognitive model as an updated theoretical foundation of the classic CBT intervention
  • Link the specific CBT techniques in relation to the generic cognitive model to generate clinical change.
  • Conduct case conceptualization in formulating the treatment agenda consistent with the CBT treatment philosophy.
  • Utilize various core CBT techniques, i.e., cognitive restructuring, behavioral activation, and problem-solving, in relation to therapeutic change and progress.
  • Articulate the strengths and limitations of classic CBT techniques and identify the rationale behind the occurrence of 3rd wave CBTs.
  • Reiterate the specific and differential utilization of CBT techniques when being delivered to unique clinical populations.
  • Apply CBT-specific conceptualization skills in clinical cases.
  • Integrate CBT-specific skills and techniques consistent with a given CBT treatment formulation.
  • Articulate the core differences between 3rd generation CBT interventions.

CEUs Social Workers: This course qualifies for a maximum of 12 Continuing Education hours. The Community Mental Health Association is an approved provider with the Michigan Social Work Continuing Education Collaborative. Approved Provider Number: MICEC 060818. Qualifies as “face-to-face (in-person) education”.

Substance Abuse Professionals: CMHA is approved by Michigan Certification Board for Addiction Professionals (MCBAP). CMHA maintains the responsibility for the program and content. Substance Abuse Professionals participating in these trainings may receive a maximum of 12 (related) contact hours. Some "Related" workshops may meet MCBAP/IC&RC educational requirements for focused topics in addiction certification domains, such as for Peer Recovery or Supervisor credentials. It is important that attendees keep a copy of the conference program brochure containing the workshop descriptions along with their attendance record form. Qualifies as “in-person education.”

Substitutions are permitted 3 business days prior to the training. While there is no fee for this training, we request written cancellation notice 10 business days before training (cbywater@cmham.org) if you find that you are unable to attend once you have registered.
